Animism + Totems

Animism – 1. the attribution of a soul to plants, inanimate objects, and natural phenomena.

2. the belief in a supernatural power that organizes and animates the material universe.

Indigenous Totems

alaska_f76t4512Because many things have a spirit and come from the Creator/Creatrix as metaphors of reality and the Cosmos the Indigenous people of the Earth saw and related to ‘things’ with deeper meaning. Indigenous aboriginals from around the globe believed that animals, the elements, and dreams were alive with symbolism and messages and a sacred form of communication which helped to guide and form the past, present, and future. Symbolism was an expression of the soul that everything was one with the Creator, the Gods, Man, the hidden realms, the heavens, the Plant kingdom, and Animal kingdoms and so on. Seeing and experiencing the outer and inner world in this sacred way allowed one a kind of divine guidance recognized and used upon one’s path and journey. In this way, you are alone but always in a synchronicity with the all of the creation in their many forms and faces. The definition of God or Goddess was seen in all things, everywhere and connected to the many realms of waking, sleeping, doing or non-doing.

930f4d85efaf07d09a35ea1ccba4bef3Since ancient times and antiquity, the concept of Animism was mastered and used as a way of higher consciousness to bring understanding and balance to the Earthly physical realm. Ancient Egyptians (Kemetic) art and ‘theology’ are founded upon this sacred perspective through the Ntchr (Ntr) or Netcheru meaning Deities of Nature. They believed that cosmic man must master the animal spirit or kingdom while on Earth, hence his/her lower self or lower (primal) nature. This was understood that the lower nature consisted of the lower chakras or energy centers that must be cleared, mastered,  and raised through the higher chakras to obtain Self Mastery, the GodSelf and/or true “enlightenment” or what we call “Christ Consciousness” in modern terms. They even mapped these earthly animal totems to the skies or heavens known as astrology and cosmology, and mastered the axiom “As Above, So Below” mathematically mapped through geomancy and sacred temples, pyramids and architecture. Whatever was below, on earth was above in the heavens, and cosmos. Nothing was separate or fragmented; instead, the Self-was seen in its highest form as one whole unit of the Universe connected to everything and returning to the Nothing or Void, the Cosmic Womb (Visica Pices).

Indigenous people span the entire globe. Ancient aboriginal people (clans) are on the continent of the Americas (North, Central, South), the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, India,  including Russia, Alaska, Iceland and Greenland and northern Europe. The Indigenous of South and North Americas are known for their wisdom of Animal Totems symbology which were passed through sacred knowledge from their African pygmy (twa) and other African clan ancestors. The jaguar was known for representing a Jaguar priest, medicine man or woman, or warrior endowing one with powerful healing, justice and warrior energies, of the jaguar. Native Americans saw the eagle as a divine messenger of the spirit (heaven) and earthly realms. The eagle used by the freemason societies of early America is endowed with metaphysical and magical symbolism and is used by Europeans Freemans of the United States on the dollar bill, flags, and the architecture of buildings, institutes, schools, and churches.

Totem-Pole-Bodypainting-640x409Animal Totems are used as spiritual tools and keys to higher realms or dimensions of living and being one with the All (Creator/Creatrix). Take the time to pay attention to dreams and visions and daydreams. Pay attention to what animals frequently come into your field of vision. There is a much deeper meaning to their presence; a warning, an invitation to the deeper understanding of what is happening or needs to happen in your life. You can learn to read the signs and remain aware of synchronicities as sacred communication.

From the Oldest Woman on Earth – I come..

Such a bold statement but look at the evidence presented here! A Guadeloupean woman’s modern human bones found to be over 24 million years old and my maternal family boasting to have never been descendants of African “esclaves” but autochthonic native Caribbeans indigenous to Guadeloupe! Could this Lady of Guadeloupe be my ancestor?  (repost from My Face In History Project)

Research, research, research and Dr. Alim Bey

So I’m listening to Dr. Alim Bey last night, one of his lectures on Human Origins and Cosmic Origins. Most of his information I can validate with my own research I conducted this year from primary resources at the Library of Congress!  I personally turned the pages of the same hidden information he is teaching and sharing on YouTube and I’ve had the pleasure of being privy to such truths suppressed from the mainstream collective.  The little research I’ve done has already proven to be astounding, breathtaking, and eye-opening to our collective conscious! Why? Because it defies the academic institution and religious doctrine that keep us bound to timelines that don’t exist on our human journey on this planet.

My Family Lineage Father’s Maternal Line and Mother’s Paternal Line

Father’s Maternal Line

I’ve learned that my Father’s maternal family is tied to the Coastal Region of Georgia home of the oldest Aboriginal Indigenous Native American Indians from Savannah and Augusta, Georgia! These autochthonic tribal people called by the Cherokee as “Ani Yutsl” and “Chiksa”  “People of the Sun” are the aborigine of the Gulf region and spoke an older language than their tribal cousins. The Yuchi were rumored to be the descendants of the Mayan and Inca nations and among the first peoples on Turtle Island and klan members.  I’ve still got much genealogy to do on my Fathers family, however.

Mother’s Paternal Line

My Mother’s side are equally ‘ancient‘ in origin, if not older than my father’s maternal side (as I found out just last night). I remember hearing stories of his mother with the floor length long cornsilk hair and even had visions of her and her copper-colored brother standing beside her! My mothers side claim to be “creole” from Indigenous Indians of Guadeloupe by way of Venezuela and angrily and proudly boast of never being enslaved  (“esclaves” as the Africans from Senegal have been recorded) on the island of Guadeloupe, Les Saintes, Bas Terre. Unfortunately, I from an African American perspective still see colonialism for what is its when I researched archived books of my family name that started in the 1600s I saw the baptism of Catholic names turned to “Leon”, and “Jean” and “Marie” and thought to myself that these “native’ people were still enslaved through loss of identity and forced assimilation to intermarry with the European French for survival. In fact, if they are descendants of the first people of that land they intermarried and forfeit their land to the colonial powers of the British and later the Dutch and French!  It was a lesser degree of enslavement nonetheless. I remember seeing pics of some of the Kalinago brought to Paris France like circus animals so I am on the other side of such prideful boasting and more of a descendant of tribal realism. I have yet to speak to more relatives and do this research as a primary source but its on my genealogy list. 🙂

Recently, I had heard the statement a month about “the Lady of Guadeloupe whose bones were a million years old” ago but ignored it thinking it was another “Guadeloupe” until I finally researched it myself.

Evidence-based Findings on the Lady of Guadeloupe

In 1812, the skeleton of a woman was found on the island of Guadeloupe, FWI. She is 5 foot 2 inches tall and her head and feet were missing. Her skeleton was encased in limestone sandstone and is dated at 28 million years old. She is not from any ape-hominins species, but a modern human type that Michael Cremo’s, “Forbidden Archeology: The Hidden History of the Human Race” illustrates in his book of suppressed archeological evidence. It is known that the pygmy also called  the Twa (Bes people) in ancient Kemet were the first modern human species to inhabit the whole of this earth from Africa they dispersed across the globe. They were reported to have resided in the Americas, Europe, Asia, the many islands of the Caribbean, so called Polynesia and Melanesia, and more.

Oral Stories of the Pygmy and Family DNA

My mother told me that her father would often speak of the pygmy and I wondered why he was in awe of these people. Ironically, when I visited my family in Guadeloupe, they were a mix of very tall 6 foot people and very short 5 foot people. I inherited the ‘very’ short gene being the shortest and most petite of my family including my own children, nieces, aunts, uncles, sisters, mother and father, grandmothers and grandfathers I am the smallest at barely 5 foot tall. My mother and grandfather are both very short people compared to their siblings just as I am. When I did my Ancestry DNA test  and linked it to GEDmatch I had two different pygmy stocks showing up on my test Biaka – Pygmy, Mbuti – Pygmy (including Eastern Bantu, West African, Khoi-San, North-African, and Nilo Saharan)! This doesn’t include the MesoAmerican and Siberian DNA! Nevertheless, I can now say that I’m getting much more comfortable with my small discoveries about what we call identity, race, and evolution in the Americas and on this planet.

Old Ancient DNA Older than Slavery of the African

I used to boast that I had some of the oldest DNA on this planet! But it was my boast that my Soul was way older than I could imagine to even my own self! When I did the DNA Ancestry “thing” I was amazed and perplexed that my DNA had so much ‘diversity.’ But let’s be honest here, there is debate and conviction that these so-called DNA tests are bogus-hocus-pocus and less-scientific evidence-based data to truly prove genetic affinity or identity. I’ve heard Henry Louise Gates make fun and jokes about the very validity of these tests!

Nevertheless, a Facebook friend brushed it off as a result of  ‘slavery’ throughout the many generations of my relatives, but I insisted that my DNA was older than our perceived dates of colonial slavery even African slavery through the ages. Surely, I knew that there was slavery in America, and in the Arabic invasions of Africa, but still something inside of me also knew my DNA existed even beyond these human atrocities and timelines provided by historians and archeologists.

“Im older than this! My DNA, my Soul is ancient!”  I would say and reorient myself to see the world and its people as the ‘children’ of the later time or earlier time of devolution rather than evolution in the ages of lost memory, lost technology, lost sovereignty, lost civilizations, lost nations, and lost identities.

The Tree of Life – Discovering the Baobab Fruit

The African Longevity Tree

Adansonia digitata (materia medica),  the Lion King fruit tree, is also known by many names such as “Queens of the Forest, Tree of Life, Roots of the Sky, The Source of Water (Life), is the baobab tree grown throughout Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, colonial Caribbean, Australia, and Asia (Malaysia). It’s known for its life giving positive properties and a powerhouse of healing benefits.

The international demand for the baobab fruit has risen to an all time high from Europe, Japan and the United States allowing baobab farmers from Eastern and Southern African regions to “supply over 700,000 metric tonnes of Baobab fruits annually” according to Bizna.

“Commercialization of the Baobab could provide rural communities in Eastern and Coastal regions with a financial incentive to protect woodland forests,” says John Mlamba, the chief executive officer of Management of Arid Zones Initiatives and Development Options (MAZIDO) International. ”

The baobab tree, the “Longevity Tree” have been carbon dated to be as old as 2000 years old, some say 5000 and 6000 years old! It trunk holds over 120,000 litres or 32,000 US gallons of water for the arid, dry often drought regions it inhabits.

The Spirit of the Baobab Tree

The tree is known for sparking words like ‘longevity,’ ‘healing,’  and ‘positivity’, but this is something I researched via Youtube and web articles. I have yet to travel to a region where these massive trees  grow and feel the energy firsthand. Trust me, its on my travel list! I always feel like a scientist trying out new products and information on myself, taking notes of feelings, energy, emotions, body and physiology that occurs due to my new discovery and evaluating if something is worth time, money, resources, energy, etc. I don’t take anything at face value or word of mouth. I can’t wait to explore this tree and be at the foot of its roots and its people.

When I stumbled into the aisle with this product I asked an older black woman her thoughts on the Baobab Tree fruit and if it was worth my money. She hurriedly scattered along with an “I don’t know, I never used it before.” I thought it was odd since  she not only worked in the store, but could benefit from the variety of healing products, as well as, assist others in their search and knowledge of products. Nevertheless, something told me to buy it anyway at a whooping $20 for the powder and $14.99 for the oil I felt I had to have it and use it immediately.  (Wegmans store prices, 2018).

My Personal Findings – Skin and Hair

When I make a little porridge or bath, the baobab fruit brings  immense calm and grounding elemental energy to my body, mind, and spirit! I have a sense of ease and knowingness that overcomes me. When I make the paste I can still taste it long after I’ve eaten other foods or drinks — it lingers it’s tarty flavor on my tongue.  I’ve also purchased the baobab oil from Aura Cacia brand and have been using it on my skin and hair during this dry fall season in Virginia. My genetics are really made for the South and the Caribbean and traveling and living in these regions have proved that my skin and hair health do much better in hot, wet, tropical temperatures such as Savannah, Georgia (USA), the Mexican Peninsula (Central America) and Guadeloupe, FWI (Caribbean) climates. In these countries (regions), I don’t have to consistently moisture my skin and my hair is not dry or dull but contains its natural moisture, health and shine! When in an American colder climate, I have to constantly keep my skin oiled, and hydrated with essential oils, she butters, coconut oil, etc and there seems that nothing I do prevents my skin and hair from drying.

Lighter Menses Due to High Iron-High Vitamin C Nutrient Rich Vitamins, Fats, and Minerals

So far I’ve found that the Baobab Oil is a great moisturizer for my skin, although I seem to also require Shea Butter (Free Trade) for my hair and skin, in addition to the baobab oil. I’ve been drinking my baobab powder daily and experiencing a much lighter menstrual cycle. My energy and emotional health is increased where I am able to still workout at the gym and not feel fatigue or lethargy!  KT the Arch Degree does a wonderful alchemical breakdown on the baobab tree and its effect on the African American women’s menstrual cycle, anemia-iron deficiency, and the baobab fruit (powder) synergistic chemistry and physiology for easier menses and hormonal balance! It’s worth a watch, he’s a wonderful scientist and teacher! Ironically, I found his video on YouTube after I had made the purchase and started using the product and its been a great benefit and worth the investment!

Healing Benefits of the Baobab Fruit and Oil

The leaves of the baobab tree can be eaten as vegetables while the fruit (seed) is the only seed that naturally dehydrates while still on the tree. The dried yellow fruit the size of a coconut contains a whooping 12% water and has a strong citrus lemonade mango-like flavor. The fruity powder contains the highest concentration of the synergistic chemistry compounds of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol).

The Journey Begins (out of Africa)

Africa is our root:  The root of all civilization of the world, the “light of the world”  (Massey, 1907),  the “mother of civilization” (Henrik Clarke, ).

races_regions_wow

One statement that is common through my short lived studies of the autochthonic aboriginal in our global history is they repeat “We always been here! We were here since the beginning!” So how is this possible? And why was this never taught to us in school? Even at the university level to mention “black” origin other than the Lucy bones or some bones of an ancient African or “negroid” woman somewhere around the globe is permitted, the words “African”autochthonic is taboo, shunned and even banned from modern academia even when evidence prove otherwise.  In my own studies in anthropology I had the same disturbing gut feeling that I had when I was in my 5th grade social studies class and yelling out “this is a lie!” Some 30 years later, little has changed in the way of tearing down the walls of racism steeped in theory that was never proven openly but concealed and hidden privately by mainstream academics. The truth is their is more than enough evidence that prove “we were here!” long before Columbus set sail for the New World.

The journey begins out of Africa to new worlds.  We construct our boats made of reeds and papyrus and navigate with great precision and knowledge of the stars (astronomy) and mathematics, traverse across the Ethiopian Sea (the Atlantic) and the Pacific Oceans, to visit the Americas, South America, Asia, the islands of the Pacific. We set foot on the continents of Asia, in China, and Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, India and Australia. We inhabit those lands. We inhabit Europe, even Russia. We are everywhere on this planet earth. We build temples, pyramids, and mounds to our sacred gods. We are brothers and sisters of many nations with a common ancestor.  We build the richest ports of trade and commerce. We bring plants and seeds known to only Africa (Guinea) and plant in the new world Americas, on the Yucatan Peninsula, in Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, Peru, Venezuela, Brazil.

IMG_8691We have always been the original aborigines of the land in every corner of this earth. Check the dead of our ancestors; the so called discoveries of skulls that have been found as early as the 1800s (Cremo, 1993).

The “Black”, the “Copper Colored”, the “Red Man” in the Americas

The word “Ethiopian” was used in context, does not refer to people from Ethiopia. It springs from “aethiops” which means “burnt skin.” People of sun-burnt skin (that is blacks) were sometimes referred to, at that point in time, in this broad and general way. Lopez de Gomara also describes the black Europeans sighted for the first time in Panama. “The people are identical with the Negroes we have in Guinea.” De Bourbourg also reports that there were two indigenous to Panama (Central and South America) – the Mandinga (black skin) and the Tule (red skin). Africans were not strangers to the Spanish and Portuguese. Black Africans and Arabs had invaded  Southern European in 711 AD and had established dynasties that profoundly affected Spain, Portugal and Sicily until the year 1492, the year of the African general Boabdi of the Almohade dynasty surrendered the very year Columbus set sail for the New World . (From the Mandingo Voyages) (Sertima, 1998, p.5)

Africa is our root:  The root of all civilization of the world, the “light of the world”  (Massey, 1907) the “mother of civilization (Henrik Clarke, ) .” Africa is the root of the great Tree of Knowledge. The great Tree of Life. The world civilizations are the branches, the fruit, the seeds, and flowers of cultures and kingdoms, the Klans and tribes of the world, everywhere. Africa sprouted and birthed the great nations of this world from a cosmic source. We are indeed “celestial and terrestrial” (Churchward, 1910) as we have been since the beginning. As we traversed from land to land from nomadic to becoming agricultural communities we remained the autochthonic aboriginal indigenous inhabitants of the land on the planet. This was truth, memory, legend, and fact even evidenced up until the Columbus voyages to the Americas.

Taking Your Land & Birthright

These “Europeans” after expelling the Mauriscos (Moriscos) or Moors from Spain in 1492  with the Alhambra Decree, also known as the Edict of Expulsion; Decreto de la Alhambra  Edicto de Granada (Spanish), immediately sent Christopher Columbus (also known as Cristòffa Cómbo (Ligurian), Cristoforo Colombo (Italian), and Cristóbal Colón (Spanish) to search for new lands in the Americas. These ‘new lands’ were believed to be the ports and cities connected to the once ruling Moors of Spain. Please note there was a second expulsion in 1609 by King Philip III called the Expulsion of the Moriscos, Expulsió dels moriscos which further sent the descendants of much of the royal moors previously in Spain out of Europe for good. European monarchs and the church wanted no trace of the Moors and their children (black, brown or mulatto admixtures) in any part of the Europe.

The Papal Bull “Inter Caetera,” issued by Pope Alexander VI on May 4, 1493, played a central role in the Spanish conquest of the New World. Furthermore, The Discovery doctrine (in the Name of Christ) is a concept of public international law expounded by the United States Supreme Court in a series of decisions, most notably Johnson v. M’Intosh in 1823. The doctrine was cited in other cases as well. With Cherokee Nation v. Georgia, it supported the concept that tribes were not independent states but “domestic dependent nations”(Source: Wikipedia)

Chief Justice Marshall noted the 1455 papal bull Romanus Pontifex approved Portugal‘s claims to lands discovered along the coast of West Africa, and the 1493 Inter Caetera had ratified Spain‘s right to conquer newly found lands, after Christopher Columbus had already begun doing so,[7] but stated: “Spain did not rest her title solely on the grant of the Pope. Her discussions respecting boundary, with France, with Great Britain, and with the United States, all show that she placed it on the rights given by discovery. Portugal sustained her claim to the Brazils by the same title.

This is when most of their histories were banned and hidden from the history books and why you may not have heard of their existence in school or in movies to date. Further evidence prove that in the Doctrine of Discovery yet another catholic mandate further used a form of legal religious decree (man made instrument) to suppress, oppress and annihilate autochthonic aborigines and their indigenous descendants not only from history books, but from memory, land, resources and spirituality. The result of this legacy is the oppressive political policy we now call White Supremacy (WS) and has been part of a larger global phenomena throughout the old world and new world.

Origins, the study

Before beginning our survey of rejected and accepted paleoanthropological evidence, we shall outline a few epistemological rules that we have tried to follow. Epistemology is defined by Webster’s New World Dictionary, as “the study of theory of the origin, nature, methods, and limits of knowledge.” When engaged in the study of scientific evidence, it is important to keep the nature, methods, and limits of knowledge in mind; otherwise one is prone to fall into illusion.” (Cremo, 1993, p. 7)

When we speak of beginnings there are a plethora of myths (mythologies) that speak to the origin and creation stories of man from around the world. Each religion, each spiritual system, each tribe has its own creation myth and human origin mythology. One common theme seen throughout many of these stories is the duality between earthly man and the god or celestial man. This dual nature in man is also illustrated heavily in the works of Churchward’s, “Signs and Symbols of Primordial Man“. In this book he goes into great detail and breath to compare ancient Mexico (Mayan and Aztec) spirituality, temples, artifacts, and symbols to those of ancient Egypt, in fact, he superimposes that these cultures are one and the same.  It is suggested and documented through evidence that the pygmy African ‘negroid’ phenotype is the oldest human on the planet. Yet in Cremo’s discoveries there exists many discoveries of ‘modern human’ skeletons (bones, skulls, femurs, etc) found as early as the 1800s.

Castenedolo Skull

This anatomically modern human skull (Sergi 1884, plate 1) was found in 1880 at Castenedolo, Italy. The stratum from which it was taken is assigned to the Astian stage of the Pliocene (Oakley 1980, p. 46). According to modern authorities (Harland et al, 1982, p. 110), the Astian belongs to the Middle Pliocene, wihch would give the skull an age of 3-4 million years. [p. 424, Forbidden Archeology]

‘This twofold creation will account for the two Adams, the man of earth and the man from heaven, or man the mortal and the man the manes. In mythology the first Atum was solar. In the eschatology, the second Atum is the spiritual. The garden was made for the manes to cultivate, and the manes represents the second Adam, who as Egyptian is Nefer – Atum in spirit — otherwise man the manes in the garden of Amenta.” (Massey, 1907, p.425)

The Heart of Transformation – My Fitness Journey in Progress

I don’t allow society or the ‘norm’ whatever that is to dictate my health, mind, or body – “She” belongs to me! ~ Ria

Seeing Your Hard Work Take Shape

So I woke up this morning no alarm slightly sore but glowing! Last night was an emotional day. I was releasing some unacknowledged pain and sadness I thought I’d already released during this New Moon, Full Moon, Moon Eclipse, Equinoxes, Blood Moons (- smirking- ) these past few months have been eye-opening and full of personal truth and resolution. Spiritual transformations and physical transformation!  I was feeling a bit sorry for myself, when I decided to pick up my bags (literal and metaphorical) and head for a swim.  Surely that water would help clear my head and aid my spirit.  I looked at my app and realized I had another work out before my Rest Day.  Yesterday being Leg Day, I was still slightly sore but in need of some transformation. Day 9, Chest and Triceps!

IMG_8408

Expanded Facility

This facility I hadn’t been to in months (maybe a year aside from the pool) had expanded. I was so surprised and excited once I discovered they had added new equipment even though tiny in room size, this gym was equipped with everything and more. Kettlebells, dumbbells, free weights, olympic bars, curl bars, tricep bars, hex bars, smith machines, mats, medicine balls, Bosu balls, exercise balls, weighted balls, massage balls! :‑O
It was an athletic dream aside from the Marine base gym I visited last year. This gym for the local public was dope! And I’m thinking how to make this a permanent gym while in the area because Planet Fitness is “ehhh!”

Knowing What You Need and Listening to Your Body

In addition to the workout above, I added an abdominal routine! That left me sweating before my swim and jacuzzi session.  I will do this routine at least 4-5 times a week because it made my total routine complete. My abs are the hardest for me to loose and I realize that if I don’t focus on their development “it aint gonna happen!” After twin boys and a daughter and several C sections my abdominal wall split from its natural anatomy and unfortunately my pregnancies left me with extra skin that never stretched back to shape. Something like a Kate and 8 the mother (Kate Gosselin) who had the 8 babies and had to have an abdominoplasty to return her stomach to its original size, look, and aesthetic.

My Secret Body Shaming

I was told by plastic surgeons I have a 6 pack under my extra skin! “Yuk,” “Yikes” and “Wow!” all at the same time. I was blown away at their comments “We had another very young women your age who did quite well! You have a fit body type.” This was at my 150lb body-weight at my initial consultation. I’ve pretty much been in a secret self body shaming cycle for the past ‘few’ years since taking on fitness and gave up a few times because my abdominal section just wouldn’t budge beyond the rock hard underneath the childbearing scaring.

I kept this in dire secret never telling a soul and its affected so much of my life including my sexuality and intimacy! I’ve since decided to say “Fuck it! I‘m gonna keep going no matter what and see what happens to the rest of my body!”  I have to see how far I can go. No, I have no interest in competing professionally or turning into a professional body builder! I just want to be REALLY FIT for my body type and my ideal look and feel, sorta like a  Jada’s-mom-fit, Angela-Bassett-fit aesthetic look! I have to defy my “age” and the societal norms that say being over 40 is old, and being ‘old’ means out of shape and struggling with dis-ease. (Especially in the Black community!) I say “NO” to the mental programming. I am choosing a lifestyle that is serving my highest good and the rest will follow and fall into place. This is for no one else but me – I owe myself this opportunity to shine!

Finding the Right Facility for Your Goals

I usually try to cover up during my workouts, I wear hoodies and zip up to my neck! While at Planet Fitness this week around 11pm (after work) I was surrounded by group of young Arab men who continuously commented on my physical “attributes.” Their comments made me so uncomfortable I gathered my water bottle and exited the gym. This new facility, however, was safe and well equipped for the novel fitness person as well as for the school athlete or military veteran all of whom were present yesterday evening.  It’s important to find the right facility for your goals and comfort level- not all are created equal so be objective, envision, and plan for your workout sessions accordingly.

The Heart of Transformation

When I woke up and looked in the mirror my arms looked like well-sculpted parts of someone else’s body!!! I was blown away at how I had changed since January being closer to 150 lbs at 5 foot 0 inches. I don’t have a morning pic but a photo from last week I will share (pictured above). I’m so amazed at how this transformation is taking shape- literally! I am determined to be 50 and fabulous (in just a few short years ahead!) I really didn’t mind my 150 lbs body to be honest, “thick” is trendy and desirable these days so women at almost any size feel appreciated, loved, and happy with their body type and weight. For me, however, I wanted to simply ‘see’ what transformation looks like on me. I am proving to myself that I can go all the way to make significant gains on my own terms and in my own “time.” Plus I have a goal (image) in my head that wont disappear no matter how lazy or non motivated I get from time to time. I get back up and get back in and keep it moving. I keep hearing the voice “You can do better! You’re more than this!” And its this voice that keeps me on this focus of self-transformation and consistency.

I can actually see the difference in my body shape taking form. I was afraid my arms would get too muscular and have me looking like a little man woman but they are actually looking good, still feminine, but slightly defined and toned. I love ♡  it! A few more tweaks and it’s all maintenance from here!

Vegan Soul Food at Everlasting Life

Who doesn’t love vegan soul food? The tasty indulgence of childhood Southern favorites with the shedded guilt of pulling heavy meat industry resources from the planet. Ahh, biting into a buffalo-sauced, meat-free wing is as close to extravagance. Although hard-core vegans would argue “why fake a meat dish at all?” I get it and lived that life as well. Today, I’ve embraced the middle road. Less inclined to be dogmatic about my diet but strict enough to stay within the imaginary lines of remaining consistent on the organic, natural path.

“Excuse me Sis, but you need to teach a tutorial on how to stay fit.” – 30 something guy in white suit, Everlasting Life Restaurant, Maryland

08-26-18_Everlasting_Life_MD_Store.jpgI have to admit the last time I’ve been to Everlasting Life was probably shortly after their opening on Georgia Avenue, NW, Washington, DC almost two decades ago! The DC restaurant was since bought by Woodland Vegan Bistro in 2013. It was the first time after Queen Afua’s class (2000) near Howard University where Pyramid bookstore was housed so many moons ago, I had the sensual pleasure of tasting (for the first time) mock tuna, mock egg salad and seaweed salad that bursted with so many flavors my taste buds still anticipated its memorable suggestion.  So after hitting BWI Airport and the gym out in Laurel I was famished and in need of some nutritional healing. I remember hearing Brother Red Pill and Professor Griff speak so highly of Everlasting Life this past August during their lecture circuit and since I was within driving distance I had to check them out. The line was long enough for to me figure out what I was going to sample by the time my turn came and I chose cabbage, mock mac and cheese, and various buffalo and barbecue meat-free wings. I admit I was searching for more dark green raw veggies (as I follow a half raw food to cooked food ratio in almost all of my meals). I almost picked up the seaweed salad but thought I haven’t had ‘soul food’ in so long I’d give it a try. After all, I am always eating raw greens and salads so why not?  As I strolled to my car to tear open the container,  before I was approached by a 30-something year old man in a white suit who had been on his phone talking real estate money moves and appointments, “Excuse me Sis, but you need to teach a tutorial?”

08-26-18_Everlasting_Life_MD_Food_line

” A tutorial?” I laughed questioning in amusement exhausted emotionally by the turn of events in my personal life. “Yes, a tutorial on how you keep yourself so fit!” I was shocked at his comment. For one, he had come off to me as — lets say someone I thought uninterested in women, secondly, he was hella young (lol, oh Stella!), thirdly, I hadn’t been to the gym (seriously) in a few weeks and felt super guilty for my lack of motivation and allowing my personal life events to dictate my schedule and energy.

Everlasting Life Food Review

The food was pretty good, although I personally would have incorporated more various green foods – light green, dark green, blue-black, and purple foods with more “alive” energy that activated and nourished the melanin of its predominate customers. Everlasting foods were more mock soul food items that appealed to its demographic community. What struck me, further, was the amount of black people who were in those lines, some looked like your traditional ‘woke’ brothers or sisters while others did not. That struck me as how things have really changed where more blacks had embraced a more healthy lifestyle and seeking being vegan and vegetarian as a very real way of life. This awakening was transparent in the lines and popularity this store has in the community.

08-26-18_Everlasting_Life_MD_Food

For my years of being vegan and vegetarian, however, I enjoy many different types of eclectic foods from many geographical origins of the world that are vegetarian and vegan based. I prefer raw veggies, greens, bitters and sweet fruits, and cooked beans with fresh, spicy or herbal dense tasting flavors. Overall, I loved the buffalo meatless wings and the cabbage was slamming. I’d frequent this vegan soul food spot in a heart beat!

I truly needed some healing sun! My weeks had been difficult emotionally and spiritually and the pentacle came Sunday morning when I had to cancel my flight to Costa Rica where I had planned on an Ethnobotany conference at Hidden Garden Sanctuary. I felt defeated by the forces and felt burnt out emotionally, physically and even spiritually. I found myself finding free parking near the Smithsonian and walking into a garden.

In my own personal experiences with Sun Gazing, Agnihotra (AM and PM Sun Rituals), Surya Namaskara Yoga practice, Sun Bathing and Sun Meditations, there is a powerful alchemy that takes place during the sun interfacing with the skin (integumentary system)  receptors and our cellular molecular chemistry which boost immunity, organ health and functionality,  and longevity.  ~ Ria Sweetraw

The sun was beating down igniting and warming my skin and I embraced this kind of healing I was desperate for it. I roamed through the beautiful garden finding rosemary, varieties of sage, edible flowers, exotic shrubs,  and their sheer beauty adorned and visited by bees and butterflies. I melted into this green space absorbed in the world of plants, water fountain sounds, and beauty looking at all the names and shapes of the trees, shrubs and perennials from around the country and world.

08-26-18_Ripleys_Garden_WDC_Fountain copy

As the sun kissed my caramel skin it soon roasted my flesh into a reddish dark copper complexion which made me feel a natural high (probably from mere mental exhaustion) and lack of sleep. Nevertheless, the sun penetration did its job by the middle of my video I was feeling happiness fill my being and some rejuvenation. I  was reading Jeff T Bowles,The Miraculous Results Of Extremely High Doses Of The Sunshine Hormone Vitamin D3...” and in my own personal experiences with Sun Gazing, Agnihotra (AM and PM Sun Rituals), Surya Namaskara Yoga practice, Sun Bathing and Sun Meditations. I can assure you the Sun energy is one to be studied with reverence and an open eye and heart. Sun gazing, Sun bathing and Sun meditations have enormous benefits especially for people of darker hues aka melanin. There is a powerful alchemy that takes place during the sun interfacing with the skin (integumentary system)  receptors and our cellular molecular chemistry which boost immunity, organ health and functionality,  and longevity. Perhaps I will share more on this in a later post. 😉 In any case, I was rejuvenated both physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually!

Herbal Healing Hacks w Ria Sweetraw | NaturalSelfGoddess™ Blog♥

Quick Herbal Remedies Hack

I was approached a week ago by a coworker who insisted I give her remedies for her thyroid problem. I was shocked because I didn’t remember telling anyone about my years of herbal medicine practice. But for years I studied herbs and healed my children (and myself) with herbal remedies I got from books and healers in the community. I still wouldn’t call myself an herbal healer. I’ve listened to cutting edge researchers who are up on melanin, chemistry, ethno botanical herbs and foods and use scientific terms with skill and expertise. I am a fan of these teachers in the field of natural health, botany, chemistry, and melanin studies.  I’m still learning and expanding to include in my own personal practice. I smile though when I share basic healing remedies I’ve personally used on my self or my children (who are long gone from home).  What I gave her were some rather basic remedies and lifestyle changes (I stressed lifestyle changes) because dis-ease does not happen by chance or over night. Disease or imbalance is really maintained by poor habits; ignorant eating choices, poor exercise habits or lack thereof,  and negative, self-limiting emotions.

lavender essential oil – diy mosquito repellent

So I was playing in the woods yesterday! Getting some rest, meditation, and rejuvenation when something didn’t quite feel ‘right.’ I rushed out of the woods only to look on my arm and brush away a mosquito that was fully engaged in my skin. To my surprise I had in a very short time over 6 bites. Just a few days prior, I laughed at my son for escaping getting bitten while he had fallen prey to mosquitos in Washington, DC during dinner.  I had run out of lavender oil the week before and was too lazy to get fresh bottles.  I’m a natural advocate knowing that everything in nature is here for humanity to heal and prosper. I’m also in the midst of getting certified in Aromatherapy for healing (and its magical properties)!  You can make your own natural bug repellents and keep mosquitos, ticks, fleas, and other pesty creatures at bay.  Here’s why and how:

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender ( Lavandula angustifolia) oil is a carminative, mild sedative, anti-stress, depressant, antibacterial, anti-fungal, antioxidant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory. Not only does it relieve anxiety, and soothe nerves but it heals wounds, burns, cuts, pimples, eczema, even as a hair tonic for hair growth and to relieve sore muscles.

Lavender keeps the bugs (mosquitos) away acting as a natural, safe bug repellent. It also soothes insect bites acting as insecticidal and antiseptic reducing inflammation and itching. Apply the essential oil in a spritzer or drop some in hand to apply to skin prior to entering nature.  You can apply to skin undiluted.

Natural Repellent Oils

Some natural repellent oils include Citronella, Rosemary, Lemon Balm, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Basil, Catnip, Garlic, Tea Tree, Lemongrass, Cedarwood, Pennyroyal. I’ve chosen to combine some of these oils with Lavender essential oil. For decades, I was a Cedarwood (and Frankincense and Jasmine) wearing gal until I realized that it just wasnt strong enough alone for mosquitos and wearing Lavender oil (for me and my chemistry) really worked better. I saw and felt better results! Here are a few DIY (Do It Yourself) recipes.

Essential Oil Spritzer Spray

Supplies: 2 oz  spray bottle, a carrier oil (avocado/almond/rosehip seed/olive oil/evening primrose oil), 10-20 drops of Essential Oils, distilled water, organic witch hazel

EOs (Essential Oils)

8 drops Geranium

5 drops Rosemary

5 drops Lavender

Add 1/2 tbspn (table spoon) distilled water, 1 tsp (teaspoon) carrier oil, 1 tsp witch hazel, 15-20 drops essential oils (blend). Shake well.

Bug Be Gone Cream

  • 8 drops of tea tree essential oil
  • 8 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 8 drops of lemongrass essential oil
  • 6 drops of citronella essential oil
  • 6 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
  • 4 ounces of (liquid/fractionated) coconut oil

Seeking Fitness in Nature – Fitness Vlog June 2018

How about Fitness in Nature?

Going for a lake swim preceded by yoga in the park? Sounds amazing right, that’s what I thought. I got dressed headed to Fredericksburg VA to a park I had visited last Indian Summer where everyone was either tubing, swimming or fishing in the Rappahannock River. I was excited with yoga mat packed and Speedo-goggles ready! When I got there however I was met with a half closed park gate, complete empty park, and what looked like an overflowing muddy river. I was heart broken and frustrated that perhaps I was in the wrong state or country. Then I thought about Sweden.

So Glam

When you are in Sweden you have the right to walk, cycle, ride, ski and camp on any land with the exception of private gardens, near a dwelling house or land under cultivation. We call it the Freedom to Roam.

I recently completed an International Business course and was blown away at my findings. First let me share, I’m a kind of bohemian indigenous artistic geek, I’m a Sagittarius who loves just about everything I can sink my teeth into physically and mentally,  i love research and learning. It doesn’t feel right if I cant research something, try it, then report about it.

I’d love to be able to go to a local park with speedo and googles and jump into a lake but living in America the thought of lake swimming in my location is damn near impossible for many reasons.

What I found astounded me! For short, I’ve been a Nature lover since I was a child running through the forests learning all I could about berries and flowers to ingest and absorbing the beauty and serenity of trees and cloud watching. I developed a love with Nature and all her healing gems.  I’d love to be able to go to a local park with speedo and googles and jump into a lake but living in America the thought of lake swimming in my location is damn near impossible for many reasons. Uh, not the case in Sweden!

Not only do Swedes have a “Right to Roam” with passports that open doors to them across countries and freely visit other nations without scrutiny, they have what is called “Right to Public Access” or ‘Allemansrätt’ (Outdoor Access Rights) which is a right to national parks and nature that would otherwise be forbidden or heavily limited. That’s right, Swedes can swim in public lakes, park lakes and rivers, roam mountains, and coastlines,  andarchipelagos! Learn more about Swedish EPA Right to Roam policies.

What a huge contrast to the policies and laws here in the United States, especially where I currently reside in Northern Virginia, but then I’m thinking I probably just need to travel. See what other American’s are doing, roam the parks, country sides, coastal regions, get a passport and hop across the country into jungles, hike foreign trails, seek refuge in sacred temples. Okay, Im dreaming and intending! (smile) Here’s to your adventures, fitness and fun!

Stay Fit, stay Love, stay Empowered!
