Seeing Your Hard Work Take Shape

So I woke up this morning no alarm slightly sore but glowing! Last night was an emotional day. I was releasing some unacknowledged pain and sadness I thought I’d already released during this New Moon, Full Moon, Moon Eclipse, Equinoxes, Blood Moons (- smirking- ) these past few months have been eye-opening and full of personal truth and resolution. Spiritual transformations and physical transformation!  I was feeling a bit sorry for myself, when I decided to pick up my bags (literal and metaphorical) and head for a swim.  Surely that water would help clear my head and aid my spirit.  I looked at my app and realized I had another work out before my Rest Day.  Yesterday being Leg Day, I was still slightly sore but in need of some transformation. Day 9, Chest and Triceps!

Expanded Facility

This facility I hadn’t been to in months (maybe a year aside from the pool) had expanded. I was so surprised and excited once I discovered they had added new equipment even though tiny in room size, this gym was equipped with everything and more. Kettlebells, dumbbells, free weights, olympic bars, curl bars, tricep bars, hex bars, smith machines, mats, medicine balls, Bosu balls, exercise balls, weighted balls, massage balls! :‑O
It was an athletic dream aside from the Marine base gym I visited last year. This gym for the local public was dope! And I’m thinking how to make this a permanent gym while in the area because Planet Fitness is “ehhh!”

Knowing What You Need and Listening to Your Body

In addition to the workout above, I added an abdominal routine! That left me sweating before my swim and jacuzzi session.  I will do this routine at least 4-5 times a week because it made my total routine complete. My abs are the hardest for me to loose and I realize that if I don’t focus on their development “it aint gonna happen!” After twin boys and a daughter and several C sections my abdominal wall split from its natural anatomy and unfortunately my pregnancies left me with extra skin that never stretched back to shape. Something like a Kate and 8 the mother (Kate Gosselin) who had the 8 babies and had to have an abdominoplasty to return her stomach to its original size, look, and aesthetic.

My Secret Body Shaming 

I was told by plastic surgeons I have a 6 pack under my extra skin! “Yuk,” “Yikes” and “Wow!” all at the same time. I was blown away at their comments “We had another very young women your age who did quite well! You have a fit body type.” This was at my 150lb body-weight at my initial consultation. I’ve pretty much been in a secret self body shaming cycle for the past ‘few’ years since taking on fitness and gave up a few times because my abdominal section just wouldn’t budge beyond the rock hard underneath the childbearing scaring.

I kept this in dire secret never telling a soul and its affected so much of my life including my sexuality and intimacy! I’ve since decided to say “Fuck it! I‘m gonna keep going no matter what and see what happens to the rest of my body!”  I have to see how far I can go. No, I have no interest in competing professionally or turning into a professional body builder! I just want to be REALLY FIT for my body type and my ideal look and feel, sorta like a  Jada’s-mom-fit, Angela-Bassett-fit aesthetic look! I have to defy my “age” and the societal norms that say being over 40 is old, and being ‘old’ means out of shape and struggling with dis-ease. (Especially in the Black community!) I say “NO” to the mental programming. I am choosing a lifestyle that is serving my highest good and the rest will follow and fall into place. This is for no one else but me – I owe myself this opportunity to shine!

Ab Workout Routine: 2-3 Reps to Failure. Russian Twists (Weighted), Alternate Heel Touchers, Bottoms Up, Plank, Cocoons, Air Bikes, Side Planks, Elbow to Knee, Repeat, Repeat! This should leave you feeling an ‘ouch’ on your tummy – now you know you’ve got it in! (smile)

Finding the Right Facility for Your Goals

I usually try to cover up during my workouts, I wear hoodies and zip up to my neck! While at Planet Fitness this week around 11pm (after work) I was surrounded by group of young Arab men who continuously commented on my physical “attributes.” Their comments made me so uncomfortable I gathered my water bottle and exited the gym. This new facility, however, was safe and well equipped for the novel fitness person as well as for the school athlete or military veteran all of whom were present yesterday evening.  It’s important to find the right facility for your goals and comfort level- not all are created equal so be objective, envision, and plan for your workout sessions accordingly.

The Heart of Transformation

When I woke up and looked in the mirror my arms looked like well-sculpted parts of someone else’s body!!! I was blown away at how I had changed since January being closer to 150 lbs at 5 foot 0 inches. I don’t have a morning pic but a photo from last week I will share (pictured above). I’m so amazed at how this transformation is taking shape- literally! I am determined to be 50 and fabulous (in just a few short years ahead!) I really didn’t mind my 150 lbs body to be honest, “thick” is trendy and desirable these days so women at almost any size feel appreciated, loved, and happy with their body type and weight. For me, however, I wanted to simply ‘see’ what transformation looks like on me. I am proving to myself that I can go all the way to make significant gains on my own terms and in my own “time.” Plus I have a goal (image) in my head that wont disappear no matter how lazy or non motivated I get from time to time. I get back up and get back in and keep it moving. I keep hearing the voice “You can do better! You’re more than this!” And its this voice that keeps me on this focus of self-transformation and consistency.

Happy August! That Blood Moon ( Full Moon Eclipse) has provided some powerful shifts and I’m so thankful for this growth, wisdom, sight, and the myriad of opportunities! So much has been happening since my last post (so much I don’t post). I am working on creating a blog post schedule to keep up with my daily life, what I’m doing, eating, writing, studying, etc. Everything brand new! (Wink) I’ve been beading making new waistbeads with greater gratitude and intention, beaded anklets, men’s bracelets (from some requests), and getting back on my fitness routine for the ending of summer into the autumn time.

I know I’m late to the party, but I just discovered the delicious Oyster Mushroom (Fake Fried Chicken) dish! Oh heaven (haha!) I also have fallen in love with Sunwarrior plant based protein adding this to my green drinks! Chlorella is my best friend (the supplement of choice). I’m crazy over Wolfberries aka Goji Berries as a snack! I’ve been studying vibrational medicine and the vibration of Essential Oils in healing through my Aromatherapy Practitioner certification course! Im also retaking some earlier alternative healing courses like Herbalism and Wild Harvesting, Crystal Healing, Nutrition and Vegan, Plant-based courses, Yoga, as well as, new courses like REBT Life Coach certification, Reiki 1, 2, and Master Certification, and others,  to explore, discover, and retouch upon knowledge and recertification.

I will be able to offer some of these services and create classes for community as a way of giving back (Karma Yoga). What other form of gratitude could one have but to give gifts of healing, love, and creative abundance!

I’m so thankful to be back in the DC area! It’s been both humbling and eye-opening journey home and so far I’ve been gifted with some awesome creative avenues such as Dance Workstudy program (study West African Dance, Modern Dance, Hip Hop, Salsa styles), Join a Neo Soul Jazz band as Lead Vocals, perform in a Women’s program featuring international dance, learn acoustic guitar (one was given to me!), and create natural (vegan) food recipes for friends (featured below). Dance has been amazing and challenging because I’m learning to breathe through the movements I intend to perfect (each hand gesture, feet placement, neck roll, hip thrust is deliberate and intentional with focus on the memory of Ancestors and space-time continuum of what is now through the past and even our future)! In one class, we started out with one drummer then ended up with over 7 Drummers and the company director showing up to watch class!!! Everything in my life has become primarily spiritual and humbling!

Returning to school at this time – has been perfect timing. I’ve managed to keep most of my As and stay at a decent GPA while adding Creative Writing and International Business to my minors. And I love starting Poetry Workshop this term, as it allows me to dive deeply into the very intimate aspects of my Self and explore greater depths of creativity and the craft of poetry.

Rainbow Kale Salad with Crazy-Cumin Chickpeas and Creole Sweet Tomato Salad (pictured above) a great organic Summer meal, snack and in my case breakfast! Shout out to MOM’s Organic Market in Waldorf, Maryland (3301 Plaza Way, Waldorf, MD 20603) for their exquisite organic selections and great customer service. Everyone who worked there had that beautiful #MelaninMagick glow! I’m a nut for fresh organic foods and love, love, love diverse recipes I can sample and ‘recreate’ into my own unique creation; to me “EVERYTHING IS ART!” and food is no exception. The more diverse the colors the better, not only does the presentation look amazing, but you’re getting all the nutrients your body is seeking! So what did I make? First-course Vegan Wraps (not pictured). I found the most beautiful selection of Swiss Chard I used along with Collard Green leaves.  These were stuffed with mashed avocado and chickpeas, sliced avocados, sliced red and yellow bell peppers (so sweet), spicy arugula mixed sprouts, sliced carrots, organic tomatoes, sweet red onion… The organic cumin was such a treat! I couldn’t get enough of it. That morning, I made a dressing with organic Olive Oil, Braggs Aminos, Cumin powder, squeezed Lime juice, salt, and pepper! Chopped the Dinosaur Kale thinly along with the chopped Swiss Chard leaves, let it soak with the red and yellow peppers, threw in the sliced tomato and red onion and mashed chickpeas and Voila! the yummiest salad breakfast ever! As for my “Crazy Cumin” obsession? Not so crazy after all, cumin is known for its healing properties including its dietary fiber content! It’s a carminative (calms the body), antifungal, antimicrobial, and stimulates digestion. Since my friend had been juicing most of his foods I thought it would help him ease into eating raw foods. I remember the Rasta in Harlem teaching me all about the healing benefits of cumin seeds adding to cooked or oiled foods. And I secretly love the flavor it adds to cilantro, avocado, and lime! ~ Delicious!

The Beauty & Magic of Anthocyanins

I’m obsessed with all things containing Anthocyanins, why? Because they are Nature’s powerfully packed nutrient rich chemicals that help to active, stimulate and empower melanin compounds. They have a higher pH the darker their pigments (although recorded as red-purple at pH 7 while green at pH 8-14). Ever hear the phrase “the darker the berry the sweeter the juice?” well it’s a lot more to that phrase when it comes to our sunkissed magical composition.  The Reds, Purples, and Blues of the darker leafy greens, black rice, eggplant, dark red cherries, red apples, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, red cabbage and black grapes. A Gymnast is Born: Meet Allison Tellez

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of witnessing my niece, Allison Tellez, age 8, compete at The Royals Invitational at Stafford High School.

 

It was my first-ever live gymnast meet and to be honest, I’m rather hooked. I wish my kids were still young enough to learn and join in the fun. At the age of four Allison and her younger sister were proving to me that they could do every yoga asana I showed them. But this weekend it was Allison who asked me if I could do the Natarajasana, full splits and Padmasana! I was embarassingly sore from that morning’s body sculpting session and did a poor attempt at “Cosmic Dancer” leaving a cracking sound in the air which drew giggles and ridicule. Of course, a flexibility challenge has ensued where all 3 yogi poses will be accomplished by yours truly per our next gymnastics meet. (I better be ready, cause this cutie is brutal! lol)

Congrats to Allison who won 5 medals at the Royals Stafford Invitationals. Unfortunately, she refused to wear her 3rd, 4th and 5th place medals because according to her mother, Faja Tellez, “she’s used to winning 1st and 2nd place medals, this is rare!” I, however, thought she did a fantastic job representing her team, gymnastics school and family! Goo Allison!

It’s Wednesday, January 27, 2016 and I am so excited for simply being alive!
Today I made videos about just about “everything” …fitness, health, cures,

Be Fit.

It was Leg Day yesterday and I pushed the envelope on my sets and reps. Squats especially 50/70/90/90 – 12/12/12/10 and working my way back up into the 100s.
Between barbell lunges, squats, leg  presses, leg extensions, seated calf raises, weighted hyper extensions, weighted crunches.  I left the gym in a real sweat and with spaghetti legs. Mission accomplished. Today I can hardly sit but my legs are getting defined and I’m satisfied. 🙂

Maybe it was the Leo Full Moon but I’ve been working on turning down my feisty fiery nature! I seem to be taken in on all the injustice and getting pissed at the insanity and ignorance.  Perhaps that is just my signal to delve into Yoga!  It’s 2016 lovely people let’s start acting like it.

So there ‘are’ times when the Cosmic Mother in me feels outrage, unfairness and injustice! And my need to express feels more like an old soul reminding, chastising and scolding a child more than anything.  Okay so my rant (this time) was over Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s comments on Race and DNA on his show, Finding Your Roots.  Yeah. As you can see I got my first real Jade after some really mystical synchronistic events whirled me in the direction of “I Must Have some Jade In My Life!”

Coincidentally or not,  I met a VERY handsome man who kinda looked like a Hollywood version of my Sun who insisted on knowing my name while I helped him return a pair of trousers. He had the biggest jade band on his finger and my eyes got lost on the myriad of tattoos which looked more like early Meso Tribal American  with snakes and pyramids.

When he revealed he was from Thailand I almost choked on my bubble gum, his dark complexion and curly black hair seemed more ‘native’ but then again my point was proven “We are ALL “kinnected”! Then there was the black elder lady with an amazing Jade collection on her wrists. When she told me she got it as a gift in New York. I took a break and headed for the Fine Jewelry section, low and behold it was a sale day and boom. I remember asking the Fine Jewelry girl if she had a Nephrite or Jadeite piece and which was better to which she was unaware and could not answer. I cant wait to get a new piece to add to my growing collections! When I went to my Real Estate conference on Sunday I had to have Pearls on my body and grabbed earrings and a necklace I had purchased from Ross in Virginia a few years ago.  Pearls seemed to bring a sense of ‘calm, serenity and self awareness’ to my Spirit. I’m looking forward to travels to ‘discover’ blue Olmec Jade and to keep learning about these beautiful plentiful bountiful diverse gems, their healing energy and cultural lore.

I’ve been ‘craving’ both Jade and Pearls among other stones, gems and metals,  like Gold,  Emeralds, Rubies and Peacock Pearls aka Black Pearls.  In my picture you will notice I have a new Jade bracelet that I just adore. Here are some healing benefits, mythical lore, and more about these amazing gems!

Okay so I’m back in the gym sans anemia (or ANY female problems) this time  around and feeling so much stronger! In addition, let’s see, I’ve been doing legal work for a family member getting a divorce, self-help counseling, been studying, interviewing, working on updating this e-book, working crazy hours, getting my teenage daughter through her first semesters in College (while she’s finishing up High School), organizing and prioritizing, oh following through on my details (yeah!), meditation, mantras and yoga and did I say back in the gym lifting? Had a cold or flu for about 4 days(which was way too long and disruptive) yet I’ve been resting when the Moon is right and in action when the Sun is shining. January has been soooo amazing already and it’s just the 2nd (3rd) week! I am meeting some awesome people.  Moving into new territory in my life, loving myself fearlessly and fulfilling destiny!
